BALLET FLORIDA PRESENTS: Dazzlingly Dramatic
An extraordinary ensemble of three contemporary ballets

WHAT: Ballet Florida's 2006-2007 season launches with a WORLD PREMIERE by Jerry Opdenaker, his third work commissioned by the company. Opdenaker, a veteran dancer with Ballet Florida for 14 years, retired in May 2006 to pursue his career as a choreographer. The program also includes Dominic Walsh's Bello, featuring live music from the Mercury Baroque Ensemble, and concludes with Ben Stevenson's Bartok Concerto.

BALLET FLORIDA PRESENTS: Marie Hale's The Nutcracker

WHAT: Marie Hale's version of the Nutcracker is recognized as South Florida's most spectacular holiday family event for its dazzling sets and costumes and breathtaking special effects and dancing. Ballet Florida has brought this beloved tale to local audiences for 14 consecutive seasons. Nine performances will be held at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts from Dec. 23 - 28, plus a special performance for special needs children and adults.

An exciting trio of contemporary ballets

WHAT: Vibrant Virtuosity features a trio of contemporary ballets performed at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts February 2 - 3 including a WORLD PREMIERE by renowned choreographer Trey McIntyre. The program also includes Elemental Brubeck, a COMPANY PREMIERE set to the music of Dave Brubeck by audience favorite Lar Lubovitch. The final performance of the evening is Vicente Nebrada's Percussion for Six Men, a high-energy, athletic performance featuring live musical accompaniment by Lee Gurst.

BALLET FLORIDA PRESENTS: Lady of the Camellias

WHAT: A full-length ballet with a romantic theme, lavish sets and extraordinary costumes, Lady of the Camellias by Val Caniparoli is based on Alexander Dumas Fils' play which also served as inspiration for Verdi's opera La Traviata. Audiences will become immersed in the story of the tragic love between a young gentleman and an ailing courtesan who renounces him at the request of his father, whereupon he leaves her to die alone.

WHAT: Ballet Florida will present a magnificent ensemble of contemporary ballets on Friday, March 23, 2007, at the Countess de Hoernle Amphitheater in Mizner Park. Free and open to the public, the outdoor performance features the artistry of world-renowned choreographers.

WHAT: The fabulous finale to Ballet Florida's 2006 - 2007 season is The Stone Flower, a full-length contemporary ballet choreographed by Thierry Malandain and set to Sergei Prokofiev's brilliant score. The ballet draws on the rich heritage of Russian folklore to tell the tale of young stonemason Danila, who must choose between his village sweetheart, Katerina, and a magical temptress. True love prevails in this timeless masterpiece filled with glorious music and expressive dance.
