Broward School Board Approves New Superintendent Contract

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – The Broward School Board met  Tuesday afternoon to and approved a contract for the new Superintendent. Robert Runcie, who is leaving the Chicago, Illinois school system was offered, and accepted, a three-year deal with a starting salary of $268,000. He will begin work at the nation’s 6th largest school district Wednesday. In addition, Runcie will be given a $900 a month car allowance and a $500 dollar a month business expense allowance. Runcie, a former chief of staff to the Chicago Board of Education, was chosen for the job in September from a field of more than 40 applicants. Runcie already has public speaking events planned in order to meet the community. He’ll speak at a community forum scheduled for 7p.m. Thursday at Plantation High School, 6901 NW 16th St. The forum, sponsored by the district’s new Parent/Community Involvement Task Force, is the first of three being held to encourage parents and community leaders to get involved in their local schools. Runcie replaces Jim Notter who retired in June.
