Miami Art Museum
Welcome to MAM. We hope that visiting us will stimulate your imagination and inspire new ways of seeing and thinking. The Miami Art Museum is at the very center of one of the world’s most vibrant cities, bringing international art to life through world-class exhibitions, programs and collecting.
MAM’s exhibition program, one of the most ambitious in the United States, is the primary vehicle through which we establish our curatorial viewpoint, and further Miami's growing national reputation as an leading center for the arts. MAM looks at international art from the perspective of the Americas and the growing tendency to cross borders, bringing together different cultural traditions. MAM has forged strong alliances with other major museums in North America and beyond to present world-class exhibitions to our community. In 2004-2006, MAM’s curators will originate 14 of the 16 exhibitions the museum presents.
Just seven years after its inception, MAM has made significant progress in becoming the community’s flagship art museum. MAM’s permanent collection, started in 1996, continues to grow and reflect the museum’s inclusive vision and dedication to international art of the 20th and 21st centuries. MAM has developed internationally respected exhibitions and publications and created the largest art museum education program in Miami-Dade County. MAM’s educational programs have served more than 650,000 visitors of all ages since 1996.
Governance and Accreditation
Miami Art Museum (MAM) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit educational institution with a civic Board of Trustees. MAM was accredited by the American Association of Museums and reaccredited in 2001 with a glowing report: “We found the Miami Art Museum to be a handsome, lively, and thoroughly professional institution, well governed, well-run, and poised for significant growth.”
Private and Public Support
Miami Art Museum receives both private and public funding. More than 50 percent of its annual support comes from corporations, individuals, foundations and MAM members. MAM is sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts; with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, the Mayor and the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners
